October: Lessons Learned

Hey Students! It's time to share!

I know you learned fascinating things in all of your WAVA classes this month. October is coming to a close, so for this week's response...

Tell us about something you learned in
your English course in October.

Did you read a short story or poem that you enjoyed? Did you write a memoir, a paragraph, or other composition that you are especially proud of? Did you learn a new study skill, concept, or vocabulary word? Did you participate in a Class Connect that opened your eyes to something new? Tell us about it! We want to know!

Please use only your first name whenever you leave a comment on this blog. For directions, visit Blogging 101. Your comment will not be seen by others until I approve it.

I look forward to your responses,

PS - Thank you to all of the students who commented on the blog last week!

The short story "After Twenty Years" by O. Henry is an amazing shorty story, made me feel as though I were in it. Heart felt to me. I almost had a tear roll down my cheek.

LOVE IT,

Kevin

In L.A., I learned what a an indirect object was the second time i read over it. EXAMPLE. The raccoon was wet and cold. Wet and cold would be the I.O. ....I think.

This month I FINALLY got a basic idea for my book. Hopefully I will be able to post the prologue on here when I finish it!

Hi Mrs. Sol,
This month I learned is that a memoir is a story that sounds like the person telling it is having a conversation with you.
Thanks,

Over the last month I have learned about several very interesting scientists and much more than I ever knew about writing in general.

This month I learned how to write a memoir. I also learned that a memoir is a treasured memory that you will (hopefully) hold for the rest of your life.

Mrs. Sol,

Hi. I learned that Mark Twain got his penname (I already forgot his real name, to be honest) from a sailing/boating term for-I believe-deep water. He worked on a boat on the Mississippi River.

I really enjoyed learning about the different scientists. They were so dedicated and passionate about science, discovery and invention. They were inspiring. I especially liked Marie Curie and how she gave up so much for her love of discovery and science.

This month, I barley got to figure out how to use most of the stuff here. I learned how to turn in the work in the drop box, and it is much easier for me to read the stories on a webpage.
